1.General David Humphreys (1752-1818) Born in Derby, Connecticut Buried in Grove Street Cemetery, New Haven.
3. Family and educational background: David is the son of Sarah Humphreys and Reverend Daneil Humphreys. Humphreys tough from 1771 to 1773 in Wethersfeild, Conneticut but not before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree at Yale University.
4. Occupation and accomplishments: Appointed by congress as secratary to negotiate commercial treaties in Europe. He rose in the ranks from Secratary and turned to Colonel, then being the first United States Minister to Portugal, and then bridager general.
5. War events making them a Patriot: When Humphreys was made Colonel to a United States detachment to stop Shay's Rebellion in 1787. Humphreys much prefered to wark hard behind the scences rather than in them.
